In short: Bothy collects nothing about you. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it sends nothing about you to us or to anyone else.

What stays on your phone

Your notes, downloaded collections, maps and books, reading positions and settings are stored only on your phone. We never see them. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

When Bothy uses a network

• Downloading content. When you choose to download a collection, map or book, the app fetches it from a Bothy hub on your Wi-Fi, or from Bothy's download server. The download server sees what any web server sees (your IP address and the file requested). We don't use that to identify you, and we don't keep it beyond the hosting provider's standard logs.
• Finding hubs. To find Bothy hubs, the app looks for them on the Wi-Fi network you're connected to. Nothing leaves that network.
• Sharing nearby. When you share, your phone runs a small web server that people nearby can open in their browser. Chat messages, photos and voice messages sent in that chat are kept on the sharing phone or hub, are visible to the people using it, and never go to the internet.

Everything else (search, reading, maps, the AI answers, notes and games) works entirely on your phone.

Permissions

• Nearby Wi-Fi devices / location (depending on your Android version): only to start a Wi-Fi network for sharing. Android requires this permission for that; Bothy doesn't record your location.
• Camera, microphone, location in chat: only when you choose to send a photo, a voice message or your place in a nearby chat.
• Notifications: to show download and sharing progress.
• Files: only when you choose to import your own books.
• Phone: Bothy never makes calls. The first aid cards' Call buttons open your phone app with the number filled in, and you decide whether to call.

This website

This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to serve and protect the site.

Children

Bothy collects no personal data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
